Irving Harper was a brilliant mid-century designer and a prolific creator of paper sculptures. He created these in his spare time, in part to relieve stress from his professional life as an industrial designer. In his spare time! Chances are you’ve seen his material on the web, or in books about his sculptures.
If you own one of Irving’s sculptures (one of his friends), please consider joining this community, so together we can engage around a collection of his works. This project is a bold undertaking to bring so many dispersed pieces of art together.
However, the opportunity is to great to ignore. Rather than the 2016 Wright auction being the end of the road for hundreds of Irving’s friends, our aim is to make 2022 they logical start of the next logical phase, bringing owners and lovers of his works together for the benefit of all.
Irving Harper’s works appealed to all: the young and old; and everyone in between. That is a rare feat for an artist. The exhibition at the Rye Arts Center in 2013/4 was a major proof point.
Ultimately, if we succeed, we’d like to showcase some of his works, even if only virtually, for others to see. There’s still a lot of interest and excitement about his work. this will never happen, of course, without your express permission.
Your privacy is important to us and it will be assured, even within the community, should this be a condition of your participation. This is not a commercially-driven initiative.
Watch and listen to Irving Harper speak about his creation while it was on display at The Rye Arts Center.
